Fresno State’s CineCulture film series and Filmworks present two screenings of the documentary “Miss Sharon Jones!” at 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at the Tower Theatre (815 E. Olive Ave.). Two-time Academy Award-winner Barbara Kopple follows Grammy-nominated R&B dynamo Sharon Jones, often compared to James Brown, during the most courageous year of her life. She had a middle-aged breakthrough while joining forces with Brooklyn R&B outfit The Dap Kings before, on the eve of the release of the much-anticipated album “Give the People What They Want” in 2013, learning she was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. After the 5:30 p.m. showing, the musician will discuss the film in a live Skype session. The 93-minute film is not rated. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $8 for students and seniors.
