A state grant announced Wednesday, Nov. 16 will fund an all-electric bus fleet for Fresno State’s Bulldog Express shuttle system next year. The California Air Resources Board announced the award to the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District to deploy 15 Proterra Catalyst buses, 11 Proterra depot chargers and four Proterra fast chargers for several Valley recipients as part of the California Zero-Emission Public Transit Regional-Scale Deployment Project to improve air quality and public health in disadvantaged communities throughout the Valley. Also receiving buses and charging stations designed to help significantly reduce harmful emissions and clean the air in the San Joaquin Valley will be the City of Visalia Transit Division, Fresno County Rural Transit Agency, San Joaquin Regional Transit District and City of Modesto Transit Services. Fresno State will get three new electric buses and one en-route fast charger for launch in January 2018, said Debbie Adishian-Astone, vice president for administration at Fresno State. The University currently operates two diesel buses for the shuttle that began in January. INFO: Andy Bennett, 559.278.0855 or abennett@csufresno.edu. See full press release: Electric Buses Grant.
