Fresno State’s University Theatre will present, “Resilience,” a contemporary dance concert, February 17 through 25 (excluding Feb. 20) with daily show times at 7:30 p.m. and a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee in the John Wright Theatre in the Speech Arts building on campus.
“Resilience” is a series of six contemporary dance works developed by The Contemporary Dance Ensemble with choreography provided by Fresno State theatre arts professor Kenneth Balint, Fresno State student Amy Hardison and guest international dance artists and choreographers Janelle Paris, Fumihiro Kukichi and Rogelio Lopez.
The ensemble for “Resilience” consists of 12 Fresno State students committed to expression through dance and movement, with majors ranging from pre-business to art, as well as theatre arts and dance.
Balint, artistic director for the Contemporary Dance Ensemble, said “Resilience is best described as the ability of people to cope with stress and crisis, then rebound quickly. This concept of resilience permeates throughout the dancers’ movement and choreography.”
Continuing to create and explore through movement, each new dance is a world premiere, ranging from explorations in darkness and abuse to utilizing technology through video projection that creates an opportunity for 10 dancers to virtually and aesthetically interact with one another during the performance.
“The members of the Contemporary Dance Ensemble and all six choreographers strive for performances that generate a renewed ability to move forward and tackle challenges with creativity, hope and positivity,” Balint said.
