The Collegian, Fresno State’s award-winning student-run newspaper, will host a public discussion from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, March 23, in the University Student Union (room 312-314) on the referendum to build a new student union facing students in the upcoming student elections. Students will vote March 28 – 30 on the question of whether to raise fees by $200 per semester (fall/spring only) for the construction and operation of a new student union.  The fee, which will not be implemented until the facility opens in 4-5 years, would include an inflation increase of 3 percent per year. The forum, which is open to the general community as well as students, faculty and staff, will feature a panel moderated by the Fresno State Mock Trial Team and featuring panelists in favor and opposed to the project. It is designed to facilitate a healthy discussion on the pros and cons of the proposed facility, said Diana Giraldo, Collegian editor-in-chief. Dr. Frank Lamas, vice president for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, will serve as a panelist for the discussion along with Dan Waterhouse, Monique Touchstone and Andrew Dadasovich. The newspaper will take questions via Facebook Live at @FSCollegian and Twitter at @TheCollegian for those who cannot attend. INFO: Giraldo at dgiraldo@mail.fresnostate.edu.
