CineCulture will present “Dogs of Democracy” at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 6, in the Peters Education Center Auditorium at the Student Recreation Center (5010 N. Woodrow Ave.). The post-screening discussion will be led by Mary Zournazi, writer and director of the film. Set in Athens, “Dogs of Democracy” is a documentary film about the stray dogs populating the famous city in Greece, as well as the people who care for them. Located in the birthplace of democracy, Greek-Australian filmmaker Mary Zournazi explores Athens through the eyes of these dogs and their people. The documentary portrays Greeks as the “stray dogs of Europe,” where the dogs have become symbols of hope for the people and the anti-austerity movement. A message of love and loyalty is portrayed through the dogs in showing what can be learned from animals. The presentation is sponsored by the Classical Studies Program and the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures with support from the Phebe McClatchy Conley Endowment. “Dogs of Democracy” is 58 minutes long. All CineCulture films screened on campus are free and open to the public. Parking is free after 4 p.m. on Fridays. INFO: Dr. Mary Husain at mhusain@csufresno.edu.
