CineCulture will present “Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story” at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 13, at the Peters Education Center Auditorium in the Student Recreation Center (5010 N. Woodrow Ave.). The post-screening discussion will be led by Richard Rhodes, author of “Hedy’s Folly,” the book on which the film is based. Following the life of the beautiful Hedy Lamarr for which the film takes its name, the film is a documentary about the 1930s and 1940s actress and inventor who laid the basis for cell phone and Bluetooth technology. This icon was not only the inspiration for Snow White and Catwoman, but became a technological trailblazer who perfected a radio system used during World War II, though her inventions were uncredited. A combination of interviews and clips featuring Lamarr speaking on her life, the film reveals the unexpected story of a woman seen as too beautiful to be intelligent, but who became an influential figure and role model to this day.
