The Fresno State Department of Art and Design and Center for Creativity and the Arts will host a photography exhibition featuring the work of photographer Tomiko Jones. The exhibit “Tomiko Jones: Hatsubon” will be on display at the Phebe Conley Art Gallery from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays, Sept. 20 through Oct. 12. Jones will give an artist lecture from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in , followed by an artist’s reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Phebe Conley Art Gallery. The exhibition examines the ceremony “Hatsubon,” which marks the first anniversary of a loved one’s death held during the yearly ritual of O-bon, a Japanese Buddhist custom that honors ancestors. Jones is an internationally recognized artist who received awards including the Center for Photography at Woodstock AIR Program, En Foco New Works Fellowship in New York, 4Culture and CityArtists in Seattle, and Pépinières Européennes pour Jeunes Artistes in France.
