Serving his fellow man is something Dr. Richard Salsgiver does every day. A dedicated social worker, teacher and researcher, he started as a lecturer in 1988 and is now a full professor in the Social Work Education Department. Teaching is his love and his passion, and he seeks to make his students’ educational experiences meaningful. In his classroom, Socrates reigns: lectures surround questions that encourage students to really search for answers. Dr. Salsgiver is also a compassionate and giving person. Many of his students say they consider him to be someone they can turn to both inside and outside the classroom. Dr. Salsgiver has published numerous articles in social work journals on issues facing persons with disabilities. He considers himself an advocate for students with disabilities and served as an adviser for the university’s Services for Students with Disabilities office. Also, he is the co-author of Disability: A Diversity Model Approach in Human Service Practice.
With Dr. Salsgiver is Andrea DaSilva, a senior Deaf Education major.
