A genuine interest in his students drives Dr. Matthew Darling as much as his passion for music. A percussionist with extensive solo, chamber and orchestral experience, Dr. Darling is an associate professor in the Department of Music. He sets high standards for himself and his students, many of whom are gaining community acclaim for their accomplishments. He performs annually as principal and/or adjunct percussionist with the Fresno Philharmonic and Grand Opera, the Musicin the Mountains Summer Festival Orchestrain Nevada City, CA, and the Orpheus Chamber Group, and has performed with such artists as Doc Severinsen and Dionne Warwick. Dr. Darling published an article on the music of John Joseph Heney, percussionist and xylophone soloist with the John Philip Sousa Band from 1926-1931. In addition to hosting the Annual Central California Day of Percussion, which brings to Fresno acclaimed national and international performers and teachers, Dr. Darling also appears regionally and nationally as an adjudicator, presenter, conductor and clinician. With Dr. Darling is Michael Downing, a senior Music major. |
