Dr. Alice Wright knows her way around a laboratory, and so do her students. A professor in the Biology Department, Dr. Wright has inspired many of her students to go on to medical school. She is recipient of the 2004 Provost’s Award for Graduate Teaching. Active in her field, she has been successful in obtaining outside funding for biological research that includes the study of gene regulation, bacterial metabolism and biodegradation of pesticides. She also studies how agricultural practices affect microbes. More than just a researcher, Dr. Wright truly focuses on her students, giving them a foundation for success that has led them to head the microbiology lab at Fresno Community Medical Center, teach at Merced College, and study in Ph.D. programs at Johns Hopkins University, UC San Francisco, UC Berkeley and Emory University.

With Dr. Wright are master’s graduate students in Biology Jennifer Ghosoph and Leigh Schmidt.
