Are you having a problem with www.FresnoStateNews.com? Here are the solutions to the most common problems. Just click for the answer.

Why aren't the fonts consistent when I view the site. Designing for all the various types of browsers out there, from Netscape to Internet Explorer, from Opera to PDA browsers, is a real challenge for us. FresnoStateNews.com should be viewable on all versions of Internet Explorer and Netscape from version 3.0 on up. We recommend using the latest versions of both browsers to enjoy the full use of this Web site. Here are the download sites for Netscape and Internet Explorer. Other browsers (including text-based PDA browsers) should work adequately with the site, but if there are specific problems you would like us to know about, e-mail us at maydelot@csufresno.edu.
The type looks too small...the type looks too big. What do I do? We design the site to be viewed in Arial, Helios or Verdana type faces and at a medium text setting. If you have your browser preferences set to match, you'll see exactly what we see as we prepare the site. You can also adjust the size of the type on your screen under "preferences" or "options" in your browser. Most Web designers assume users are set to "medium."
How do I receive copies of press releases via e-mail? We offer that service to working news media. Fresno State's University Relations Office provides releases for news media companies via e-mail. To be added to the distribution list, send your e-mail address to tomu@csufresno.edu.
Why don't I see my news item on FresnoStateNews? Our Web site bases its news content on press releases issued by University Relations, or on news items specially sent to us. To submit items to us, contact 559.278.2795, or send news items to sarmbrus@csufresno.edu.  Items need to meet our standards of newsworthiness and accuracy to be presented on the site. The material also needs to meet our site rating. Click the button below for more info.

Can I reprint news or photos from the site? Of course, that's exactly why FresnoStateNews.com exists. Feel free to use any of our news copy or photos. We do ask that photos be attributed to www.FresnoStateNews.com, and that content not be used in a way that would reflect poorly on our students or faculty. Be aware that some Bulldog logos and images are both copyrighted and trademarked. There are strict rules about the use of our logo and other identifying marks for the University. If you have a question about usage, contact our publications director at 559.278.2795 or at bruce_whitworth@csufresno.edu.
Why can't I see streaming media on your Web site? To view or listen to RealMedia clips or Quicktime videos featured on www.FresnoStateNews.com, you'll need to make sure you have the latest download or plug-in of those media players. Some older versions of the media players will not play our clips, which are recorded (encoded) for the latest versions.
The site looks different on my Mac than it does on a PC. What gives? We try to make the site viewable on all formats and types of computers. We have many Mac users as well as PC users. Some folks are still on 486-based computers with tiny 15-inch screens, while other users are seeing us on high resolution LCD flat panel screens. We try to provide a happy compromise for as many viewers as possible. We're always open to suggestions about ways to improve the site. How can we improve?
Do you ever present "bad" news on your site? FresnoStateNews.com presents information about all aspects of university life, including news that could be classified as "bad." We routinely provide information about campus emergencies, schedule changes, power failures, traffic problems and other "breaking" news on campus. We are NOT the campus newspaper, nor do we pretend to be an impartial media outlet. FresnoStateNews.com seeks to promote the university, and provides information important to our campus community. For other news you can contact the campus student-run newspaper, "The Collegian," at 559.278.5735. "The Collegian" also sells advertising that enables local businesses to market to the campus community.
I can't get your Web cam to work. If you are on a very slow connection (less than 28.8 baud) you will have trouble seeing the Java-enabled live video on the Save Mart Center live Web cam...but you should be able to see the still picture on that site. That picture is a live single-frame "snapshot" from the video camera. You can retake another "snapshot" by clicking the "refresh" or "reload" button on your browser. If you have a fast internet connection (56K, DSL, LAN or cable modem) you should be able to view the live picture. The live picture is not true "full-motion" video, so you will see an image something like an old movie...a bit jerky. If you see only a grey box or no image at all above the still picture, you may not have Java enabled on your browser. Go to your browser options or preferences and click on "Java." If you are running Microsoft XP you may not see an option to click for Java on your browser options or preferences. You may need to download the Java program from Microsoft. It is not installed by default on a new XP installation. Click here to download XP Java support from Microsoft.
