Musical events in January and February

The Music Department at California State University, Fresno, will host events this month and in February that appeal to a broad variety of musical interests and are open to the entire community.

The Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concert Series resumes after the holidays with Russian pianist Vladimir Feltsman at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, in the Concert Hall. Tickets cost $12.50 for general admission, $7 for seniors and $5 for students.

Duo Arcobaleni (Silvia Belfiore, piano, and Mauricio ben Omar, percussion) from Milan, Italy, will perform new Italian classical compositions at 8 p.m.
Jan. 26, in the Wahlberg Recital Hall. Admission is free for this Orpheus presentation. Details: 559.277.8784.

Professor Helene Joseph-Weil (mezzo-soprano) and Hatem Nadim (piano) will present “A Schubert Liederabend - An Evening of Schubert’s Songs” at 8 p.m.
Jan. 27 in the Concert Hall. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $7 for faculty, staff and seniors, and $5 for students.

The West Coast Clarinet Congress’ theme Feb. 2-3 is “Woodwinds and Guitar in Entrepreneurship.” The event is sponsored by Yamaha Corporation of America, Clovis Music Center and Miller Sheet Music. Master classes are free. Tickets for a performance in the Concert Hall are $1.

Guitarist Julian Byzantine will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 3 in the Wahlberg Recital Hall. Tickets cost $12 for general admission and $8 for faculty, staff, students and seniors.

Fresno State Jazz Bands “A” and “B” will perform original compositions and arrangements at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 9 in the Concert Hall. Tickets are $6 for general admission; $5 for faculty, staff, students and seniors.

The annual Fresno State Horn Workshop, which will include master classes, a mass horn choir and a concluding concert, will take place Feb. 10 in the Concert Hall. The special guest is David Krehbiel, former principal horn of the San Francisco Symphony. Registration is 12:15-1 p.m., followed by the workshop. Registration fees are $10.

Saxophonist and faculty member Alan Durst will be joined by some of Fresno’s finest musicians for a performance at 3 p.m. Feb. 11 in the Concert Hall.
Tickets cost $6 for general admission; $5 for faculty, staff and seniors; and $4 for students.

The Junior High Repertoire Project is scheduled at 1 p.m. Feb. 13 in the Concert Hall. Admission is free, but seating is limited.

The Keyboard Concert Series and L’Alliance Française de Fresno will host French pianist Jean-Philippe Collard at 8 p.m. Feb. 14 in the Concert Hall.
Tickets cost $12.50 for general admission, $7 for seniors and $5 for students.

Saxophone Studio Recital will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 16. in the Wahlberg Recital Hall. Tickets cost $6 for general admission; $5 for faculty, staff and seniors; and $4 for students.

The 11th annual Double Reed Day Gala Performance will be at 5:30 p.m. Feb.
19 in the Concert Hall, featuring guest artists and a double reed ensemble with participants from throughout California. Tickets: $10 for general admission; $5 for faculty, staff, students and seniors.

The Keyboard Concert Series and San Joaquin Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will host organist Graham Barber at 8 p.m. Feb. 23 in the Concert Hall. Tickets cost $12.50 for general admission, $7 for seniors and
$5 for students.

Fresno State faculty members Natasha Kislenko (piano) and Paul Murray
(bass-baritone) will perform Schubert’s “Die Schöne Müllerin” at 3 p.m. Feb.
25. in the Concert Hall. Tickets cost $10 for general admission and $5 for faculty, staff, students and seniors.
