Equine program to host educational seminars

California State University, Fresno’s equine program will host seminars that will address health care, nutrition and reproduction.

Events are:

Feb 28 - Health care programs: This seminar will discuss vaccination and worming programs, including common diseases and prevention methods. There will also be demonstrations and participants will have a hands-on experience giving intramuscular injections and administering oral medications.

March 7 – Nutrition: Hay selection, nutritional management and debunking nutritional "myths” will be topics discussed at this seminar. Discussions will also include characteristics of visual and textural qualities of good and poor quality alfalfa and grass hays, focusing on nutrient content of different types of hay and how to make decisions about what type of hay to buy and feed based on nutrient requirements of horses and management considerations.

March 14 - Equine Reproduction: This program will center on estrous detection and record keeping and being a smart consumer of breeding services. A demonstration of semen collection and evaluation, along with a demonstration of artificial insemination, will be performed.

Each Wednesday event will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Quarter Horse Unit. Admission is free.
