Sports columnist to speak May 11

Matt James, sports columnist at The Fresno Bee, will speak at a gathering of the Friends of the Madden Library on Friday, May 11, in the University Business Center’s Alice Peters Auditorium. A reception starts at 6 p.m. and the program is from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

The title of his talk is “7 States by Age 30: The Vagabond Life of an Aspiring Journalist.”

James attended the University of Kansas and has been a news and sports reporter and columnist near Chicago, in Selma, Ala., and La Crosse, Wis. He has been at The Fresno Bee since January 2006, and recently won a fourth-place award in a writing contest sponsored by the Associated Press Sports Editors.

Free parking is available in the Lot J or the University Business Center lot.
