ALERT: Police action near campus; Campus remains open

There was a shooting incident at University Village apartment complex located just north of Bulldog Stadium at Barstow Avenue late Monday night.

The Fresno Police Department is negotiating via telephone with the suspected gunman who shot and killed one man and wounded two others. The suspect, Jonquel Brooks, is a student and one of the victims is a student. Neither of the victims' injuries are life threatening.  The deceased person is not a student. The Fresno Police Department has indicated the campus area is safe for classes.

The Fresno Police Chief indicated the shooting occurred during an altercation in an individual apartment in the complex.

Roads in the area have been reopened.

The university provided accommodations and counseling to students affected by the incident. Students, faculty and staff who wish to have counseling should contact the Student Health Center.
