‘Bulldog’ bus shelters unveiled

Bus shelters near Fresno State campus have a bright, new look in Bulldog blue and red. Fresno Area Express (FAX) installed three new shelters along Shaw Avenue near the university and at the northeast corner of Cedar and Barstow avenues.

At a press conference today (May 2) to “unveil” the shelters, Fresno City Councilmember Larry Westerlund praised the cooperation of the city and Fresno State in the project. The university poured the concrete pads and placed conduit to provide power to the sites, and FAX purchased the new shelters and installed them.

Fresno State Vice President for Administration Cynthia Teniente-Matson said the encouraging the use of public transportation is part of the efforts to a more environmentally aware campus. Other efforts include expanding recycling, sustainability in building design and construction, improved energy efficiency and environmental education.

Two additional shelters are expected after road work is completed around the university.

The new shelters are larger with more seating space and feature a design unique to Fresno State with the high hip roof line and red and blue colors. The new shelters are also wired for lighting, which provides additional safety and security after dark. Fresno Area Express can also utilize the power at the shelters to accommodate electronic message boards that will announce bus times and let passengers know how long before the next bus arrives.
