Immigration discussion May 3

A day-long seminar, "Impact of Immigration on Children and Families," will be presented Thursday, May 3, at California State University, Fresno. The seminar is part of Semana de la Raza, the campus’ weeklong observance of Cinco de Mayo.

It will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Satellite Student Union. Admission is free and the event is open to the public. Parking is available in Lot J on Woodrow Avenue and Lot P at Maple and Barstow avenues.

It is presented by Fresno State’s Title IV-E Child Welfare Program and the Social Work Education Department in partnership with the Chicano and Latin American Studies Department and University Migrant Services in the Division of Student Affairs.

Semana de la Raza began Monday and runs through Thursday, which is “Dia del Inmigrante.”

The Thursday schedule is as follows:

8 a.m.- noon
Title IV-E Integrative Seminar -- “Pillars of Social Work Practice - Immigration Issues in Child Welfare - Policy, Practice & Community Resources”

8 - 11 – Presentation by Dr. Carlos Perez, chair Chicano and Latin American Studies, Fresno State; and Anita Ruiz, M.P.A., Social Worker, Fresno County Department of Children and Family Services.

11 - noon – Seminar panel: Margarita Rocha and Rosemary Moreno, Centro La Familia; Anna Rodriguez, Catholic Charities; Gloria Hernandez, Community Advocacy; and Peter Vang, Fresno County Department of Employment and Temporary Assistance
