Room remains in some Summer Arts classes

Space still is available in CSU Summer Arts courses in television production and public art, which will be conducted July 1-14 at California State University, Fresno.

CSU Summer Arts, operated by the 23-campus California State University system, offers two-seek intensive master artist courses culminating in public performances or presentations. This is the ninth straight year CSU Summer Arts’ home has been the Fresno State campus, providing a central location for students and a series of cultural arts events on campus.

“Going Public: Architecture, Landscape, and the Emerging Field of Public Art” brings together four acclaimed experts as instructors: artists Lita Albuquerque and Sandow Birk, Christopher Artemus Aykanian, who teaches in the University of Southern California School of Architecture, and architect Robert Levy. Part of the course will be field trips to examine public art in the central San Joaquin Valley and elsewhere.

“Television Production: Live in 5-4-3-2 … The Television Premiere of ‘The Members’” features Cont Mhlanga, artistic director of the Amakhosi Theatre Company of Zimbabwe, as one of the professors. Other experts will work with Mhlanga to present a live drama for television at the end of the two-week course.

There are openings, too, in the second CSU Summer Arts session, July 15-28, in “Solo Performance: Cultural Perspectives from Three Continents” (a writing and acting course) and “The Writer Who Adapts (almost anything)” (tools for a variety of writing disciplines).

Classes are intended for students with a broad range of interest and ability. The deadline for first-session classes is Monday, May 21, and June 4 for second-session courses.

Information about all courses in the CSU Summer Arts 2007 program and enrollment information is available at www.csusummerarts.org.
