Workshop June 30 focuses on African-American youth

A workshop designed to help African-American parents and students navigate the transition to college, “Making It Happen: Paving the Way through Education,” will be held June 30 at California State University, Fresno. The deadline to apply is June 15.

The free workshop will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Satellite Student Union. It is open to students in grades 5-12, community college students and parents.

It is sponsored by Fresno State’s University Outreach Services, KnowHow2Go, the Campaign for College Opportunity and the Fresno West Coalition for Economic Development.

The conference will offer three workshops geared towards parents of middle school, high school, and community college students:

  • Middle School: Understanding the Transition to High School

  • High School: Making High School Count

  • Community College: Charting the Course to a Four-Year Degree

Fresno State, Fresno Unified School District and Fresno City College staff will be available to answer questions. Entertainment and light refreshments also will be provided.
