Live drama for television on Thursday

CSU Summer Arts students learn production techniques for Thursday's live TV broadcast. The Amakshosi Theatre Company of Zimbabwe and California State University Summer Arts plan a live broadcast at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 12, of the politically charged play, “The Members,” written by acclaimed Zimbabwean playwright Cont Mhlanga, a teacher in the Summer Arts tv production class.

The play will air live on the Comcast Cable 14, the Fresno-area cable system’s community channel and will be available to download online after noon Friday, July 13.

The production is part of the CSU Summer Arts program, which is a blend of master classes and public performances taught in two-week installments during July.

This is the ninth straight July of CSU Summer Arts on the Fresno State campus, which gives students intense two-week courses with recognized experts in visual and cultural arts. Each course culminates with students participating in a public presentation.

“The Members” is about the corruption of a Zimbabwean Parliament member’s fall from office.

The play features actors from the Los Angeles Actors Studio and the Amakhosi group.
