Indian independence commemoration Aug. 26

A celebration of India’s 60th Independence Day will be held Sunday, Aug. 26, at California State University, Fresno.

The event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Satellite Student Union. Doors will open at 3 p.m. and admission is free.

One of the highlights of the event will include a speech competition by local students, ages 8-18 on the topic “Independence movement of India” and “Shahid Bhagat Singh.”

The program will also feature Indian dancing and a speech by Fresno State President John D. Welty.

The event is co-sponsored by a variety of community organizations and the Central Valley Cultural Heritage Institute at Fresno State.
