Anti-war poet Sam Hamill to read at Fresno State Sept. 10

Anti-war poet Sam HamillSam Hamill, a prolific poet, essayist and founder of Poets Against War, will read from his work on Monday, Sept. 10 at California State University, Fresno. He also will meet with students and faculty for a question-and-answer session on Tuesday, Sept. 11.

Hamill’s appearance is sponsored by the Madden Library and the English Department’s MFA program in creative writing.

The reading is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 10 in the Leon S. and Pete P. Peters Educational Center, located in the Student Recreation Center on Woodrow Avenue, north of Shaw Avenue. Admission is free. A reception and book signing will follow the reading.

The Sept. 11 question-and-answer session is scheduled for noon in the Family and Food Science Building, Room 212B.

Hamill is the author of 15 volumes of original poetry, including his just-released “Measured by Stone,” published Curbstone Press. He also has published three collections of essays and two dozen volumes translated from ancient Greek, Latin, Estonian, Japanese, and Chinese.

Hamill founded Poets Against War in 2003 in response to the invasion of Iraq. He edited a best-selling selection, “Poets Against the War.”
