Students jogging at the Rec CenterTime to sport the workout duds. The Student Recreation Center at California State University, Fresno will host an open house from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29.

There also will be an open house for the Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, located on the second floor of the Student Recreation Center.

The Student Recreation Center - on Woodrow and Shaw avenues, west of the Save Mart Center - will feature free food, prizes, music and tours. Fresno State students can register to win a $100 gift certificate to the Kennel Bookstore.

The Lyles Center will showcase its programs, screen a movie and give away popcorn.

The Student Recreation Center opened in February 2006 and has averaged more than 1,000 users each weekday. The center was built with student fees.

It provides state-of-the-art exercise and strength-building equipment, two racquetball courts, basketball and volleyball courts, and an indoor running track.

New programs this semester include intramurals, personal training and group fitness classes. A “Fall Fitness Festival” will be held Sept. 25 at the Satellite Student Union -- an event designed to bring all fitness-related campus entities to one central location to help educate the campus about fitness opportunities.

The Student Recreation Center is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 11 p.m. Sunday.

The Lyles Center, which moved into the second floor of the Student Recreation Center in April 2006, is one of the leading entrepreneurial centers in California. It assists both students and community members in pursuit of their entrepreneurial goals.
