Keyboard Concerts series opens Sunday

Sa ChenSa Chen, who placed third in the 2005 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, opens the 2007-08 season of the Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concerts series at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at California State University, Fresno.

Chen, considered one of China’s best concert pianists, will play works by J.S. Bach, Chopin and Mussorgsky at her performance in the Concert Hall of the Music Building.

The series, in its 36th season, is composed of seven solo concerts, all at Fresno State. Keyboard Concerts also sponsors workshops and other special concerts, including the 2008 Central Valley Youth Performance Awards Competition for pianists and organists.

Season tickets are $80 general, $50 seniors, $30 students. Individual concert tickets cost $12.50 general; $7 seniors; and $5 for students. Tickets for the special events are not included in season-ticket packages.
