Taylor Hartline of Fresno, a senior political science student at California State University, Fresno, was chosen by the Leon & Sylvia Panetta Institute for Public Policy as one of 24 California college students to be Congressional interns.

The internships began Monday, Sept. 24,  in the Washington, D.C., offices of California congressional representatives. Hartline was assigned to the office of Rep. Wally Herger, a Republican whose district stretches from just north of Sacramento north to the California-Oregon border. Hartline and the other interns will spend two-and-one-half months in Washington and will attend seminars on different aspects of government policy. Each student receives 20 academic credits.

The Panetta Institute, which is headquartered at California State University, Monterey Bay, was founded by and is directed by former White House chief of staff Leon Panetta and his wife, Sylvia. Their institute serves the entire 23-campus California State University system.
