Milk and Cookies Night sends alcohol awareness message

EDITORS: For information regarding media coverage of Milk and Cookies night, contact Abbey Deniston at 559.352.1524 or Tyler Miller at 559.352-1570 (on site contact).

The annual Milk and Cookies Night will be held from 10 p.m. to midnight today, Oct. 17, in the University Courtyard Atrium at California State University, Fresno as part of National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week.

Also part of the observance is the Wicked Wellness Carnival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18. Both are activities celebrating Homecoming Week, which ends Saturday, Oct. 20, with the Fresno State football game against San Jose State (at 2 p.m.).

At Milk and Cookies Night, student residents of University Courtyard will visit booths and participate in activities about alcohol education. After they’ve learned, they’ll get milk and cookies.

The program is sponsored by Boosting Alcohol Consciousness Concerning the Health of University Students, a student organization created in 2003 to educate peers about healthy lifestyles and making responsible choices.

Milk was donated by the Dairy Processing Unit on campus.

Scheduled to participate in the nighttime event are the Violence Prevention Project, InterVarsity, Campus Police, University Courtyard Community Service Committee, Public Safety Assistants, Residence Hall Association, USU Productions and the student subcommittee of the university’s Alcohol Safety Council.

The Wicked Wellness Carnival, a Halloween-themed event presented by the University Health & Psychological Services' Wellness Services, will be in the Memorial Garden (south of the Kennel Bookstore).
