Major Marcia A. Potter, a U. S. Air Force battlefield nurse recently back from a tour in Iraq, is at California State University, Fresno today sharing her experiences with students.

Hosted by the Fresno State’s AFROTC Detachment 35, she will speak today from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Engineering East Building Room 191 for the squadron’s last leadership event of the semester. The event is free and open to the public, but space is limited.

Currently stationed at Dover Air Force Base, Del., Potter is assigned as a family nurse practitioner with the 436th Medical Operations Squadron.

Today she will discuss her experiences as an Air Force nurse during Iraqi Freedom and her nursing career in general. Her presentation will include a slide show and a question/answer session.

She also will be given tours of the campus coordinated by the Army ROTC, Nursing and Aerospace departments.

“Major Potter was a nurse for many years prior to joining the military, and her experiences during Iraqi Freedom should be enlightening," said Lt. Col. Samuel B. Vandiver, Commander of AFROTC Det 35, professor and chairman of Aerospace Studies at Fresno State.

A seven-year veteran of the United States Air Force who recently returned from assignment in Iraq , she is serving as part of the Why We Serve speakers program and is addressing groups around the country about her personal experiences serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Potter is a native of Clayton, Ohio, and received a master's degree in nursing from Purdue University. She is married and the mother of three.
