Classes start Tuesday, Jan.
15, at Fresno State with something new on a major entry point to campus
– a roundabout at Barstow and Chestnut avenues.
In preparation for using the new feature, plus the usual
start-of-semester traffic congestion and parking crunch, officials are
asking students, faculty, staff, and the public coming to campus to
allow plenty of time to reach their destination.
For the first few weeks of school the Save Mart Center North Lot will be
available for overflow parking until 3:30 p.m. each day, excluding
Friday, Jan. 18.
The intersection at Barstow and Chestnut Avenues will reopen for
eastbound and westbound traffic. Construction of the roundabout at the
intersection is complete and ready for use, but signage and striping is
forthcoming.
Officials offered the following tips for using a roundabout: use caution
as you approach, yield to vehicles already in the roundabout and give
them the right-of-way, and slow down to 15 mph.
Traffic control will be posted along Barstow and Woodrow Avenues to ease
congestion. Please follow the direction of traffic officers and signage.
