Career and Internship Expo is Feb. 28 at Save Mart Center

More than 1,000 students, alumni, faculty and staff are expected to attend the Career and Internship Expo at California State University, Fresno on Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Save Mart Center.

Several career-preparation workshops for students begin today (Feb. 20) and run though Feb. 25.

The Feb. 28 recruitment event from 12:30 to 5 p.m. is presented by the Fresno State Career Services Office with the theme, “Explore, Network and Connect.” More than 170 local, regional, state and national entities will recruit at the event.

Attendees must be enrolled in a degree program or already possess a college degree and are encouraged to talk with employers one-on-one to gain insight on opportunities and demonstrate highly-sought communication skills, said Rita Bocchinfuso-Cohen, director of Career Services.

“The expo will be of special interest to all Fresno State students, not just seniors,” she said. “Alumni and seniors are encouraged to speak with recruiters about full-time professional employment. Juniors and sophomores can obtain information about internships and summer employment, while sophomores and freshmen can explore future career opportunities related to their majors.”

Bocchinfuso-Cohen said the event also provides employers a great opportunity to tap into Central California’s college-educated public.

“Many of the employers who have signed up indicated an interest in seeing candidates who are working on, or have completed, a master’s or specialty degree,” Bocchinfuso-Cohen said. “Meeting potential candidates at events like this, allows employers to streamline their recruitment process and to become acquainted with the people represented by the resumes they receive.”

Candidates seeking a full-time employment should dress professionally and bring copies of their resume, she said.

Other Career Services events related to the expo are the following:

Feb. 20-21 – “Making the Most of Expo Workshop” will help students learn the tips on preparing for, navigating and following up after major career events. The Feb. 20 event will be from 4 to 5 p.m. in the University Student Union 308, and Feb. 21 from 7 to 8 p.m. in USU 309.

Feb. 21 – Resume Doctor Workshop from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the University Student Union Pavilion. For this, students should bring a resume for career counselors to review and make suggestions before the Career and Internship expo.

Feb. 25 – Interview Techniques Workshop will be from 7 to 8 p.m. in the USU 309. Students will learn the basics of interviewing, including how to prepare, typical questions, how to respond to typical questions and how to follow up.
