Downing Planetarium lunar eclipse event Feb. 20

The Downing Planetarium at California State University, Fresno will celebrate the total lunar eclipse Wednesday, Feb. 20, with the premiere of “Moonbound 2020,” chronicling the history of NASA’s manned-space program.

The 6:30 p.m. program at the planetarium will focus on the many space shuttle missions, and look at the plan to put humans back on the moon by 2020.

During the eclipse, the moon will turn a deep shade of red as it passes into the Earth's shadow. Central Valley Astronomers members will be outside the planetarium with their telescopes so those who attend can view the phenomenon. The total phase of the eclipse will last from 7:01 until 7:50 p.m.

Tickets are required for the show only; eclipse viewing is free. Show tickets are $5 for adults; $4 for seniors; $2.50 for children and students (with student I.D.).
