Pete Prestegard, longtime
chief financial officer for the Fresno State Association, died March 26.
He was 63.
Mr. Prestegard served in various roles during his 36 years at the
university. Most notably, as association CFO, he provided accounting,
financial and strategic management services to Associated Students, Inc.
ASI issued a proclamation earlier this month honoring Mr. Prestegard and
announced a $5,000 contribution in his honor to the ASI Scholarship
Fund.
The proclamation states that Mr. Prestegard “served our university
meritoriously and consistently advocated for students in every way
possible.” The document also recognizes him as chief financial officer
emeritus.
Mr. Prestegard graduated from then-Fresno State College in 1967. He
began his accounting career with Sheldon Lewis before joining the
Association in 1971 as an accountant/internal auditor.
He was appointed acting controller in 1980 and then assumed the position
of chief financial officer in 1995. He oversaw five of six campus
auxiliary organizations and was instrumental in establishing the
system-wide Auxiliary Organizations Association.
