“A
day in the life of the campus” is the cover theme of the spring 2008
issue of FresnoState Magazine, which is being distributed via
mail to nearly 63,000 alumni, university friends, students, faculty,
staff and community members.
The new edition’s centerpiece examines some of what goes into a typical
day at California State University, Fresno.
It begins with dawn breaking over the campus and staff preparing bacon
enough for hungry football players after practice and resident students
eager to get to class. There is a mix of the well-known and
behind-the-scenes, sketching how the pace accelerates during the day,
ebbs, gains new momentum after dark, then quiets for the night.
Articles look at how classrooms serve ever-changing groups; staff
members who mix work and child care; faculty and staff making a
difference; and the person responsible for the landmark Smittcamp Alumni
House’s busy schedule.
Other sections address the proposed Comprehensive Campus Master Plan,
the new Centennial Committee, the Campaign for Fresno State, Sports and
Alumni news. A special feature is faculty member and award-winning
artist Doug Hansen’s portrait of one of the campus’ 4,000 trees.
The magazine is a twice-yearly publication of the Office of University
Communications.
FresnoState Magazine also is available online by clicking the

selection of pictures taken for the magazine, some of which could not be
accommodated in the printed publication.
