A
banner for the newly named Rue and Gwen Gibson Farm Market at Fresno
State was unveiled at a ceremony Thursday. A $2 million gift bequeathed
by Joyce Gibson provided $1.5 million for renovations of the Farm
Market, and a $500,000 endowment for the equine program. Joyce Gibson
passed away in January, but before her death made arrangements for the
gift and for the Farm Market to be named for her parents.
Speakers at the event included: students Quinn Zweigle, who developed
the popular Fresno State Pomegranate Jelly, and Jennifer Schlitz, a
major in the equine program; President John D. Welty; Dean Charles Boyer
from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology; and Dr. Dennis
Nef, Dean of Undergraduate Studies. Beverly Knobloch, who is Joyce
Gibson's sister also spoke about her sister's longtime commitment to the
valley and to education.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, a number of student-made products
were sampled by those attending.
