The
many contributions of the graduate students at California State
University, Fresno will be recognized during Graduate Student
Recognition Week, April 21-25.
"The Division of Graduate Studies is putting out a call to all
departments with graduate programs to recognize their graduate students
during this special week," said Dr. Dianne Dickerson, interim dean of
the Division of Graduate Studies.
"These students are actively involved in creating knowledge and
contributing to the university's mission, and for that, they should be
recognized."
Dr. Jim Prince, faculty fellow with the Division of Graduate Studies,
said departments may hold informal receptions or colloquiums for
students to present their research or read from their creative work, for
example. The biology department, for example, will provide its graduate
students a pizza and soft drink party.
On Wednesday, April 23, a Research Expo and Reception will be held from
4-6 p.m. in the Residence Dining Facility. It will feature poster
presentations of student research in addition to examples of student
creative work, leadership and community service. David Stewart, a
graduate student in music performance, will provide live entertainment.
"This is an excellent opportunity and an honor for students to showcase
their work," Dickerson said. "It's also a chance for the university
community to see what wonderful things our students are doing."
Events like the Research Expo also encourage students to participate in
regional and national meetings of professionals in their respective
fields, she added.
The expo and reception are free and open to the public. For more
