Construction of the Henry
Madden Library is proceeding on schedule and its doors should open in
January 2009. The library has been transformed in recent months from a
steel frame outline to an impressive building with pre-cast concrete
walls in place and glass going up along the north wall.
Inside, the basement and
first floor are being prepared for the return of the books in June. The
drywall has been installed and painting is continuing up to the third
floor. Ceiling tiles are being installed in the basement and first
floor. The restrooms have been tiled and fixtures installed. The
elevators are in place and operable.
Modular buildings have been set in place west of Peters Business
Building to house the Library staff while the existing south wing is
renovated. Occupancy for the modular buildings is planned for mid-May.

Looking out from what will be the third-floor browsing room, a design imbedded into the glass makes a honeycomb effect.
