State University, Fresno’s 34th annual Vintage Days will be held on
April 17-20 with the theme “Bringing Vintage Back” and some new features
including a parade on campus and the Vintage Auto Show.
The student-led event is coordinated by the Vintage Days committee
operated out of the Student Activities and Leadership Development Office
in the Division of Student Affairs. It attracts more than 50,000 people
from the community each year. The celebration combines social, cultural
and recreational activities into a series of coordinated programs that
take place on the Fresno State campus.
The first event of the four-day celebration is the Pancake Kickoff
Breakfast from 7-10 a.m., sponsored by the Fresno State Staff Assembly,
on Thursday, April 17. Campus administrators and athletic coaches will
serve as pancake chefs.
The official opening ceremonies begin later that morning with a parade
through campus at 11 a.m., followed by a welcome message by Dr. Paul
Oliaro, vice president for Student Affairs.
Some of the popular attractions at this year’s Vintage Days include the
Crafts Faire, featuring 119 vendors selling handcrafted items; the
Boomtown Carnival with food and game booths hosted by student
organizations; and the Kid’s Zone area which features arts and crafts,
pony rides, a petting zoo and inflatable attractions.
The Golden State Strongman Challenge is also a popular attraction with
50 of North America’s strongest men competing Saturday. Student
demonstrations will be on Friday as well as a Fireman Challenge on
Sunday.
The Fresno State Wine Garden, where individuals over 21 can sample the
Viticulture and Enology Department’s award-winning wines, returns for
the second year.
The new Vintage Auto Show on campus will feature vintage cars of
community members in Parking Lot C on Matoian Avenue (across from the
Smittcamp Alumni House).
A blood drive sponsored by Fresno State nursing students will be held
Friday through Sunday, April 18-20, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
