California State University, Fresno will commemorate Computer Science Week, April 21-25, with four guest speakers, including Dr. Dana Scott, winner of the Turing Award, the computer science equivalent of the Nobel Prize.

Scott, professor emeritus at Carnegie Mellon University, is teaching a graduate course at the University of California, Berkeley. He received his Bachelor’s degree in mathematics at UC Berkeley in 1954 and his Ph.D. in mathematics at Princeton in 1958. He has taught at the University of Chicago, Stanford, Amsterdam, Princeton, Oxford, Carnegie Mellon and Linz (Austria).

The schedule is as follows:

• Wednesday, April 23
  11 a.m. - Dr. Rod King and others, Galaxy IT Inc., “The Galaxy IT Browser: Don’t Just Search; Explore,” in Lab School, Room 134.
  
  3 p.m. - Derrick Peckham, Yosemite Technologies, “Data Protection Challenges in a Cros-platform Networked Environment,” in McKee Fisk Building, Room 208.

• Thursday, April 24
  2 p.m. - Dr. Shawn Newsome, UC Merced, “Image Processing and Pattern Recognition Research at UC Merced,” in the Alice Peters Auditorium at the University Business Center.

• Friday, April 25
  2 p.m. - Dr. Dana Scott, Carnegie Mellon Emeritus and UC Berkeley Visitor, “The Future of Proof: Must We Depend on Computers?” in the Alice Peters Auditorium at the University Business Center.
