Faculty and staff at
California State University, Fresno are taking Fresno County’s challenge
to ride bicycles to work on Thursday, May 15. That morning, President
John D. Welty also will be biking to the university.
“Bike to Work Day” is a corporate challenge issued by the Fresno County
Bicycle Coalition to encourage people to ride bicycles to work. The
purpose of event is to promote good health and clean air.
The event is a part of the Fresno County Bicycle Coalition’s 7th Annual
Bike Month celebration and is the 3rd Annual Corporate Challenge.
Intended to promote bike commuting as a viable transportation
alternative in the Fresno-Clovis area, the Bike to Work Corporate
Challenge encourages individuals to leave their cars at home for the
day. This promotes more-active lifestyles, reduces traffic congestion
and keeps the community healthy.
Bike commuter teams will compete for prizes and all registered
individuals will be eligible for entry in the raffle for a $1,000 bike.
The corporate challenge winners will be based on the number of riders
and total miles ridden.
Last year, 41 Team Bulldog riders logged a total of 158 miles. This
year, a group will join the Welty and ride from University House, the
president’s residence, to Fresno State.
