“How the news media frame global warming: a harbinger of human extinction or endless summer fun?” will be topic Dr. Andrew Jones discusses at the Central Valley Cafe Scientifique meeting from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday.

Jones, an assistant professor in the department of sociology at California State University, Fresno, will focus on how the media frames complex information, such as global warming, and the political, economic, scientific and other influences involved in the conception of the frame.

He will also examine the interplay between these factors and the media influence on human perception, specifically looking at news media coverage in the U.S. and internationally.

The meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Lucy's Lair, 10063 N. Maple Ave (northwest corner of Maple and Behymer).

Central Valley Cafe Scientifique meets the first Monday of each month to provide a forum for researchers from Fresno State and other organizations to engage in casual discussion of scientific topics with community members.

Partners in organizing Central Valley Cafe Scientifique are the College of Science and Mathematics at Fresno State and Clovis Technopolis.
