With the Fresno State campus abuzz over the Diamond ‘Dogs victory over the No. 2 ranked University of North Carolina in the College World Series Tuesday, new ‘Dogs are getting a taste of the spirit today at one of 15 Dog Days orientation sessions scheduled this summer.

Each Dog Day is a day-long orientation providing opportunities for academic advising and registration assistance for incoming Fresno State students. . The sessions began June 3 and run through July 30. Each daily session runs from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m

At this morning’s general session, attended by about 300 new students and nearly 200 guests including parents and family members, news of the ‘Dogs victory last night was met with resounding cheers.

“Students and their parents are really excited today about becoming part of our Fresno State family,” said Ken Ternate, coordinator of Dog Days. At noon today, a commemorative College World Series t-shirt and cap donated by the Kennel Bookstore were given as prizes to two Dog Days students.

Dr. Paul M. Oliaro, vice president of student affairs, who addressed the students and parents at the general session, said the success of the men’s baseball team gives Fresno State national exposure and gives more visibility to all university programs.

“The nation can see that Fresno State offers quality programs in all areas – academics, athletics, student support and community service,” Oliaro said. “We are very proud not only of our student athletes, but also of all our students who are constantly contributing to our campus and our local community in many ways.”

At Dog Days, academic advisers from each college or school are available to discuss completion of general education and major academic requirements. Faculty and student leaders answer questions and give insight into campus life. A career services presentation, campus resource fair, pre-loan counseling workshop, campus safety discussion and campus tours also are offered.

The next two sessions are Saturday, June 21 and Tuesday, June 24. View the original Dog Days news release at www.fresnostatenews.com/2008/05/DogDays.htm.
