Glass sculptor artist in CSU Summer Arts spotlight Thursday

Therman StatomTherman Statom, whose large-scale glass sculptures have earned wide acclaim, will lecture on his artistry at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 17, at the Conley Lecture Hall as part of the California State University Summer Arts program at Fresno State.

CSU Summer Arts annually offers two-courses at Fresno State taught by masters in theater, dance, music, visual arts, creative writing, new media and arts education. Most guest artists present a public event and their students end each course with a public performance or presentation.

Also scheduled during the third week of public events in this 23rd Summer Arts season is a screening of the documentary “Ars Medicina” at 7 p.m. Monday, July 14, at the Conley Lecture Hall in the University Business Center at Fresno State.

The new documentary from Bklyn2LA productions and MEDiA OFFLiNE follows several Los Angeles-based physicians on a journey of personal discovery and compassion in rural Guatemala. Medical teams set up a surgical camp in Solola, a breathtakingly beautiful but distressingly poor community, and work around the clock for five days to help hundreds of people who come for free medical aid.

Following are other Summer Arts public events the week of July 13:
