Therman
Statom, whose large-scale glass sculptures have earned wide acclaim,
will lecture on his artistry at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 17, at the
Conley Lecture Hall as part of the California State University Summer
Arts program at Fresno State.
CSU Summer Arts annually offers two-courses at Fresno State taught by
masters in theater, dance, music, visual arts, creative writing, new
media and arts education. Most guest artists present a public event and
their students end each course with a public performance or
presentation.
Also scheduled during the third week of public events in this 23rd
Summer Arts season is a screening of the documentary “Ars Medicina” at 7
p.m. Monday, July 14, at the Conley Lecture Hall in the University
Business Center at Fresno State.
The new documentary from Bklyn2LA productions and MEDiA OFFLiNE follows
several Los Angeles-based physicians on a journey of personal discovery
and compassion in rural Guatemala. Medical teams set up a surgical camp
in Solola, a breathtakingly beautiful but distressingly poor community,
and work around the clock for five days to help hundreds of people who
come for free medical aid.
