Donation helps Organic Internship Program

The California Certified Organic Farmers’ (CCOF) Fresno-Tulare chapter is planting some green in the California State University, Fresno organic agriculture program with a $2,500 donation to support a new organic internship program.

Chapter president Mike Braga of Sherman Thomas Ranch & Braga Organic Farms made the presentation during the organization’s first meeting at Fresno State on Tuesday, Aug. 12. Accepting for the university were Dr. Charles Boyer, dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, and program coordinators Dr. Sajeemas “Mint” Pasakdee and Dr. Ganesan Srinivasan.

The funding will support plant science students whose two-unit internship requires a minimum of 320 hours working with agricultural industry part-time during the semester or fulltime in summer.

California Certified Organic Farmers is a nonprofit membership-based organic certification and trade association whose organic farmer members promote and support organic food and agriculture.
