Four California State
University, Fresno students were winners in the CSU Summer Arts 18th
annual Media Arts Festival, which presents some of the best student work
in film, video and interactive media throughout the 23-campus CSU
system.
The 2008 festival was held Nov. 7-8 at CSU Channel Islands in Camarillo.
Fresno State has hosted the CSU Summer Arts program of classes and
public performance for 11 years.
At the Media Arts Festival, students compete for cash prizes and
recognition from media professionals and within their departments. In
addition to the student competition and free public screening of
finalists’ work, the festival offers seminars with media specialists and
events geared towards professional advancement for CSU students and
faculty.
In the music video category, Fresno State sophomore Punit Dhesi won
first place for “Our Way.” Senior Alexis Garriott and Jessica Weldy, who
graduated in May, placed second for their entry, “Head Rush.”
In the television competition, Janice-Louise Carlet, a senior at Fresno
State, won second place for “Central Cal Metals: A Third Generation.”
This year, the festival received 175 student submissions from 18 CSU
campuses for its nine categories: animation, documentary, experimental,
interactive, music video, narrative, television, feature screenplay and
short screenplay. There 35 finalists representing 12 campuses.
Cash prizes include: $1,000 to Best in Show, $500 to each category
winner and $250 to the campus department in each winning category.
