The 2008 Distinguished Achievement award of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, California San Joaquin Valley Chapter, was presented to the Business Associates, which benefits the Craig School of Business at California State University, Fresno.

The award was presented during the chapter’s National Philanthropy Day luncheon in Fresno.

Business Associates was founded in 1981 by Helen Smades, a Fresno real estate business owner. Every year, more than 100 businesses and individuals contribute up to $5,000 to fund student organizations, student assistants for faculty, awards for graduating seniors, faculty research and professional development at the Craig School.

The donations also fund an internship program that places more than 275 students with local businesses and nonprofit organizations each year.

Larry Johanson, president of the Business Associates, accepted the award presented on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals is an international organization that promotes ethical and effective fundraising practices.
