Coffee lovers are invited to
participate in a special taste-off at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, as
part of research to develop a Fresno State coffee, “Bulldog Blend.”
The Food Science and Nutrition Department at California State
University, Fresno has been working with Peerless Coffee of Oakland to
develop the coffee that would be sold in the Rue and Gwen Gibson Farm
Market on campus.
Students in Dr. Dennis Ferris’ Sensory Science class are developing the
unique blend and are holding tasting sessions featuring competing
blends. Volunteer tasters Nov. 20 may go to the Family & Food Science
Building, room 105. Ferris said females over age 45, the typical Farm
Market clientele demographic, are encouraged to participate.
Following the session, a taste-off between blends that have survived the
earlier samplings will be held Tuesday, Nov. 25, and the winner will be
used by Peerless Coffee to produce “The Bulldog Blend.”
