The Bulldogs home football
season comes to a close Saturday with several notable activities at the
Fresno State v. New Mexico game, including more than 1,000 high school
students from 22 high schools performing with the Bulldog Marching Band
during the half-time show.
The 2 p.m. game is Senior Day for football players and band members
alike, with 26 Fresno State musicians performing in their final
appearance in Bulldog Stadium.
The university also will honor the memory of Mikey Terrones by hosting
his family from the Santa Barbara County community of Lompoc. His
parents, Michael Terrones and Cheryl Hiatt, and brother, Cooper, will be
introduced prior to the game on the field.
They will represent the young man whose dream as an eighth grader to
attend and play football for Fresno State ended when he lost his life in
a car crash three years ago. The family established a toy drive in
Mikey’s memory to help less fortunate youngsters – the goal he had set
for himself if had attended Fresno State. About 20 family and friends
are making the journey from Lompoc.
The family also will visit
Bulldog Boulevard prior to the game and attend the Fresno State Alumni
Association tailgate there. They will meet university President John D. Welty and Vice President for Advancement Peter N. Smits.
The Fresno State Marching Band will have its hands full not just with
the usual game day activities such as the Red Mile March across campus,
but also a performance in Madera in the evening.
First, Pep Band “B” will perform at noon for 15 minutes at Bulldog
Boulevard before the Red Mile March begins at 1 p.m. It proceeds from
the Music Building on the east side of campus, west on to Barstow
Avenue, through tailgates in the Red Lot and into the stadium at 1:20
p.m. to form the tunnel for the team on the field but also with Band Day
and 1,000 high school musicians. They will perform the National Anthem
prior to kickoff.
Following the game, the band will perform at the Heart of California
Tournament of Champions High School Marching Band Festival at Madera
High School.
The 144th Fighter Wing form the California Air National Guard in Fresno
will perform a flyover in tribute to Veterans Day, observed earlier this
week, while the Fresno State AFROTC Color Guard will present colors. The
Fresno State the Army ROTC will provide its traditional Push-Up Crew to
conduct push-ups for every Bulldog point on the scoreboard following
each Fresno State score.
