Fresno is planning a full schedule of events celebrating International
Education Week, Nov. 15-21. The events will showcase study abroad
opportunities for students, Fulbright programs for faculty, and
international scholars and students. Events will include:
Saturday,
Nov. 15 - International Culture Night. This will be the 25th
anniversary of the popular and entertaining celebration of the cultural
diversity that international students bring to Fresno State. The event
will begin at 7 p.m. in the Satellite Student Union.
Monday, Nov. 17 - The International Business Programs will
conduct two panel sessions on cultural influences in business
negotiations and on study abroad opportunities for business students. It
will be from 9 a.m. to noon in University Business Center, room 194.
Staff of the Study Abroad Office will be in the Free Speech area from
noon to1 p.m. to distribute information and answer questions on study
abroad opportunities for students.
Tuesday, Nov. 18 - Two Fresno State faculty members, Dr.
Helda Pinzon-Perez (Health Science) and Dr. Vincent Biondo (Philosophy)
will describe their Fulbright Scholar research programs in the Dominican
Republic and the United Kingdom at 8:30 a.m. in McLane Hall, room 193.
Dr. Paul Oliaro, Vice President for Student Affairs, will present a
slide show on his work in South Africa at International Coffee Hour at 2
p.m. in University Student Union, room 312.
A reception honoring foreign-born faculty members will be held in The
Vintage Room at 3 p.m. There will be a presentation on the dangers
facing Armenian Natural Resources in the University Business Center
auditorium from 7:30-8:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 19 - Dr. Robert Hudgens, director of Study
Abroad, will present a seminar at 10 a.m. in Family Food Science, room
112, entitled: “The Internationalization of Higher Education.”
A luncheon will recognize and honor the 10 visiting scholars, who are
currently on campus. The Migrant Student Alliance will present a program
on the Mexican Revolution at 7 p.m. in the Satellite Student Union.
Thursday, Nov. 20 - A Migrant Day Conference, sponsored by
the College Assistance Migrant Program, will be held in the Satellite
Student Union from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The Kremen School of Education and Human Development will conduct a
faculty/student panel presentation on short-term, faculty-led study
tours at 2 p.m. in Education Building, room 140.
Friday, Nov. 21 - A video, capturing student reflections
on the value of their study abroad experiences, will be shown at 10 a.m.
in Family Food Science, room 112. Staff of the Study Abroad Office will
be in the Free Speech area from noon to 1 p.m. to distribute information
and answer questions on study abroad opportunities for students.
International Education Week is a sponsored by the U.S. Department of
State and U.S. Department of Education. Hosted by the nation’s schools
and college campuses, the week is a time to celebrate the benefits of
international education and exchange programs. It is also a time to
reflect about America’s place in the world and to assess how
universities are preparing students for success in a global environment.
