‘Def Poetry’ artist Chicago concert Dec. 7 benefits Bulldog Pantry

HBO “Def Poetry” artist – and Fresno State student – Chicago will headline the Blues for Blue concert from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at California State University, Fresno’s Satellite Student Union (2485 E. San Ramon Ave.). The concert is a benefit for the Bulldog Pantry, which provides food for needy people living near the Fresno State campus.

Chicago is Rion Spears, a Fresno State senior English majoring and a member of the Bulldogs track team as a sprinter. Spears is from Sacramento.

Admission to the benefit, presented by USU Productions, is free with five canned food items for Bulldog Pantry. Tickets can also be purchased for $7 for general public and $5 for Fresno State students with valid student ID. All tickets sold at the door. Parking is free.

The event, hosted by local comedian Feather Da Wyz, also will spotlight performances by hip-hop artist Fashawn of Fresno, crooner Mateo of Los Angeles and Fresno trip hop/electronica artist Sahab. A dance competition will feature local dancers Formula Crew, On Point dance crew, BDX and Imperialz & friends.

The Bulldog Pantry is operated and maintained almost exclusively by Fresno State student volunteers. The pantry serves 100-140 families from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturdays.

The pantry was created in November 2007 in response to emergency food needs in neighborhoods surrounding the campus, said Bulldog Pantry director Don Romsa.
