Fresno State exhibits showcase student and faculty art

The Conley Art Gallery at California State University, Fresno will be the site of the annual Student Art Exhibition, which begins 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18. This is just one of several exhibits under way on campus.

Other campus exhibitions under way are professor Edward Gillum’s “To2Too” in the President’s Gallery (Thomas Administration Building), which will run through February as the first art exhibit in the newly renovated Henry Madden Library. Also under way is student Murleen Ray’s “Remnants: Conversations with the Past”, an Honor’s Exhibition of etchings and poetry in the Dean’s Gallery (Music Building), which will run through Jan. 22.

The exhibitions are free and open to the public.

The Student Art Exhibition showcases a variety of artworks submitted by Fresno State students and judged by community art leaders George Blair and Diadre Metlzler.

Students enrolled in the gallery management class, including curators Kristen Kennedy and Corrine Attenhofer, under the direction of Fresno State art professor Carol Hartman, have been working to coordinate the exhibition.

Students worked in different media and techniques for display, including painting, drawing, sculpture, glass, printmaking, photography, video, animation, performance, bronze and ceramics.

The Conley Art Gallery is in the Phoebe Conley Art Building (5225 N. Backer Ave.) on the east side of the campus, north of the Joyal Administration building. Parking will be relaxed in Lot B, behind Joyal.
