Television
news anchor Nancy Osborne, a California State University, Fresno alumna,
will talk about her career at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, in the final
College of Arts and Humanities Distinguished Alumni Lecture Series
presentation this academic year.
Osborne’s topic, “So YOU Wanna be a Broadcast Journalist,” will provide
expert insights for people considering a career in broadcast news. Her
lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be presented in the
Alice Peters Auditorium within the University Business Center.
She began her anchor duties at KFSN, Channel 30, the ABC affiliate in
Fresno, in 1977, after starting as a news reporter. It was a time when
female TV anchors were few and far between in medium-sized markets such
as Fresno-Visalia.
In 1996, after two decades of daily news reporting, Osborne became part
of the news management team as executive producer – special projects.
She continued her reporting specialties – San Joaquin Valley politics
and children’s and family issues – while helping shape overall news
coverage.
Besides reporting, Osborne currently is co-anchor of “Live at 5” on KFSN,
the top-rated newscast in the market, according to A.C. Nielsen ratings
in November 2008.
She received the College of Arts and Humanities Outstanding Alumna Award
from the Fresno State Alumni Association in 1998.
